In Bulgaria it is good to plant bulbs from mid of July to the early days of September.
The method of raised beds at a depth of 8 to 15 cm is ideal to ensure good drainage. Planting can be done manually or using a bulb seed drill. There are many ways of planting and depending on that, there are a different number of bulbs per decare. The distance between bulbs depends on their planting.

In the autumn, blooming of the saffron crocus starts about 40 – 50 days after the planting of the bulbs. If the bulbs are from a previous year and had spent the winter in the ground, they start their flowering since the beginning of October. Harvesting takes place every day, early in the morning, before the flowers are dissolved. This is a must because the exposure of the stigmas to sunlight spoils the quality.

Saffron crocus (Crocus sativus) is a perennial plant that blooms in autumn and is unfamiliar in wildlife. The red carpophore of saffron crocus from which the saffron is made, makes it the most expensive spice and medicinal plant in the world. It is also used in cosmetics, perfumery, for the manufacture of paints and inks, decorations for landscaping and others.
